The Economic Case

Print

Recent improvements in the economy, indicate that the North East would be an ideal region for relocating departments.  For example, the North East has:

  • Outperformed the national average for GVA growth for the past 2 years
  • Decreasing unemployment, but still an available pool of skilled workers
  • The most optimistic employers in the UK

The North East has outperformed the national average over the last two years and the other northern regions over the period 1999 – 2003:

North East employers are the most optimistic in the UK and corporate profitability is consistently higher than the UK average.  53% of companies plan to expand staff numbers, compared to 33% in London:

Relocating to the North East supports Government’s regional policy and regeneration objectives.  Inward investment will help promote sustainable long-term development in the region and provide a catalyst for further growth, bringing new skills, employment and graduate opportunities.
